The Risk Management committee of the IBA is the Sub-Committee of the Board of Supervisor, majority of the members of the risk management committee has expertise in risk management and banking.
The risk management committee commonly focuses on:
- Credit risk
- Operational risk
- Market risk
- pricing risk and
- Liquidity risk
The risk management committee assists the board of supervisors in developing, approving and monitoring the implementation of the risk management policies.

Mr. Afzal Ahmad
Chairman
Mr. Afzal Ahmad was appointed as member of the Board of Supervisors of Islamic Bank of Afghanistan in April 2026 after approval of Da Afghanistan Bank. Subsequently he has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors effective 14 May 2026. Mr. Afzal’s banking career has spanned over thirty years in Conventional as well as Islamic banking in multiple countries. Prior to his retirement on 31 December 2021, he served as Chief Internal Auditor at Al Rajhi Bank, Malaysia for six years. He started his career in India with a Public Sector bank in 1994 and moved to a Private sector bank in 2009. In 2012 he joined as the Chief Internal Auditor at Azizi Bank where he served till 2014. Subsequently, he was appointed as the Chief Internal Auditor at Bank of Maldives where he worked till 2016. In addition to a long span as Chief Internal Auditor in multiple banks, Mr Afzal has worked at various roles in banking which includes corporate & retail credit, trade finance, foreign exchange, IT, and branch banking. Mr Afzal is an MBA (Finance) graduate from Mumbai University and he has multiple professional certifications which includes, CPIF, CIA, CISA, CFE, CRISC, CRMA, CAIIB.
